We have a full time Manager, Marine Engineer and Shipwright who run the day to day work in the boatyard. They are supported by our part-time staff and the team of Shipwrights, Engineers, Welders and Finishers at our Plymouth Shipyard.
Sara has been running businesses in the boat world since her early 20’s. She ran a small boatyard in Exeter for the duration of her degree in Psychology and MA in Maritime History. It was also at this time that she set up Working Sail, building new wooden pilot cutters, which she ran for 12 years. She designed and ran a programme of traditional boatbuilding courses in Falmouth in conjunction with the maritime museum before moving to Devon in 2006. Here she and husband Will started Stirling and Son building and restoring classic yachts. They bought Treluggan Boatyard in 2016 which Sara runs whilst Will continues running the No.1 Covered Slip in Plymouth.
Shaw joined the Royal Navy at the age of 16 in the operations branch; seamanship and radar. After leaving the Navy he has spent 30 years as Marina Manager for MDL Marinas in Torquay, Brixham and Dartside Quay. Shaw joined the Treluggan Team as the Boatyard Manager in 2021. He is in charge of the day to day running of the boatyard supported by Donald and Tom.
Donald joined the team at Treluggan Boatyard in June 2022 after 26 years as a Marine Engineer in the Royal Navy and 14 years in the Merchant Navy. At Treluggan his time is split between servicing and repairing engines, both in the yard and the surrounding area, and yard work where he can often be seen launching and recovering boats.
Tom is a shipwright who has worked for us since 2016 at Stirling and Son, our other boatyard in Plymouth. He previously completed a degree in Geography and worked for some years in the mining industry before going to boatbuilding college at Lyme Regis.
We offer a comprehensive service for vessels up to 15 tons; river assistance, haul out, pressure washing, engine servicing, mast lift, rigging, repairs, anti-fouling, painting and varnishing.
