Our Team
We have a full time Manager, Marine Engineer, Marine Engineer Apprentice/Yard Hand and Shipwright who run the day to day work in the boatyard. They are supported by our part-time staff and the team of Shipwrights, Engineers, Welders and Finishers at our Plymouth Shipyard.
Sara StirlingDirector
Sara has been running businesses in the boat world since her early 20’s. She ran a small boatyard in Exeter for the duration of her degree in Psychology and MA in Maritime History. It was also at this time that she set up Working Sail, building new wooden pilot cutters, which she ran for 12 years. She designed and ran a programme of traditional boatbuilding courses in Falmouth in conjunction with the maritime museum before moving to Devon in 2006. Here she and husband Will started Stirling and Son building and restoring classic yachts. They bought Treluggan Boatyard in 2016 which Sara runs whilst Will continues running the No.1 Covered Slip in Plymouth. |
ShawManager
Shaw joined the Royal Navy at the age of 16 in the operations branch; seamanship and radar. After leaving the Navy he has spent 30 years as Marina Manager for MDL Marinas in Torquay, Brixham and Dartside Quay. Shaw joined the Treluggan Team as the Boatyard Manager in 2021. He is in charge of the day to day running of the boatyard. |
DavidMarine Engineer
David is a mechanical engineer with a background in subsea and marine engineering. He served an apprenticeship with AH Senar in Birkenhead, working on marine engines, followed by various roles spanning 35 years in the oil & gas sector, the final four years of which was spent managing the mechanical side of the GE Oil & Gas subsea controls business in Bristol. In recent years, David managed his own machine shop, providing machining and fabrication services to the yachting community, he also designed and built a range of manual and powered windlasses for traditional boats. |
TomShipwright
Tom is a shipwright who has worked for us since 2016 at Stirling and Son, our other boatyard in Plymouth. He previously completed a degree in Geography and worked for some years in the mining industry before going to boatbuilding college at Lyme Regis. |
Harrison
Marine Engineer Trainee
Harrison joined us full time in August 2024 as our Marine Engineer Trainee and Yard Hand. He has a foundation degree in Civil Engineering but after two years in an office wants to pursue a more hands on career. He is also in training to become a welder. |
Alison
Accounts
Alison joined the team in July 2022. She works in the office one day per week and keeps all the accounts in order. |
Our Services
We offer a comprehensive service for vessels up to 15 tons; river assistance, haul out, pressure washing, engine servicing, mast lift, rigging, repairs, anti-fouling, painting and varnishing.
